What Is Data Enrichment?

TL;DR

Data enrichment is the process of adding missing fields to records you already hold by matching them against an external data source. A row carrying one identifier, such as a work email address or a LinkedIn URL, comes back with job title, phone number and company attributes attached to it.

How does data enrichment work?

Every enrichment starts from an identifier that is already on the row, because matching needs an anchor. An email address, a phone number or a LinkedIn URL each identify one person well enough to look up. A company name and a city do not, which is why rows carrying only those match poorly.

The provider looks the identifier up, resolves it to a record on its side, and returns the fields you were missing. In JaxSuite AI the upload is a named job: you map your columns to the fields they hold rather than having ambiguous headers guessed, and the completed rows land in your workspace alongside purchased contacts.

What fields does enrichment usually add?

Person-level gaps first: current job title, normalised role and seniority, and a direct or company phone number. Then company-level firmographics: industry classification, headcount band, revenue band, headquarters location and website. Technology signals are available for some records where a public footprint exposes them.

Enrichment also corrects rather than only adds. A row whose job title is two years out of date is a wrong record that looks complete, so replacing a stale title matters as much as filling an empty cell.

What is a match rate and why does it matter?

The match rate is the share of your uploaded rows the provider could resolve to a record. It is the number that decides what an enrichment run is worth, and it varies with the quality of your identifiers and the coverage of the segment far more than with the provider you chose.

Watch for a match rate quoted as a total rather than as matched rows. A run that reports every row as processed while a third came back with nothing new is a padded number, so JaxSuite AI reports how many rows were recognised instead.

Frequently asked questions

  • Enrichment starts from rows you already own and completes them. Buying a list starts from filters and returns rows you did not have. Enrichment is the right tool for a form export, a conference scan or a spreadsheet that has been passed around; a purchase is the right tool for a segment you have never contacted.
